Chapter 12 · A handbook for practitioners
The three safety steps (Z-Z-Z Card)
A single-page A5 card that participants take home and hang next to the phone. This is the single most important printed material in the entire methodology — not because it's the most elaborate, but because it works in a moment of crisis.
The card is laminated or printed on thicker paper. Participants hang it next to the phone, put it in their wallet, or attach it to the refrigerator with a magnet.
When a senior receives a suspicious call, their brain is under stress. They don't remember the details from the workshop three weeks ago. But they see the card on the wall.
Content of the card
Z-Z-Z: Three Safety Steps
STOP
Don't react on impulse. Don't click. Don't give out any information. Don't transfer money.
THINK
Does this situation make sense? Is someone rushing me? Are they asking for something no one would normally ask for?
CALL
A loved one. Call the bank (the number on the card). Call 112.
My numbers (to be filled in by hand)
- My bank (number on the card): .............................
- A loved one: .............................
- Police: 112
- Suspicious text message: 8080
- Report online: incydent.cert.pl
Card design guidelines
- Minimum 16pt font, sans-serif
- Contrast: black on white or light yellow
- Pictograms: a hand, a question mark, a phone receiver
- A5 format, laminated or thick paper
During the workshop
Hand out the card in Phase 3 (recognising manipulation). Ask participants to repeat the three steps. Ask them to write down the numbers.
Finally, remind them: "This card is the most important thing you're taking home today. Hang it next to your phone."
